Light of the Bhāgavata - La luz del Bhāgavata

THE ARTIST:

Madame Li Yun Sheng was born in Tientsin, in Hopei, China, in 1924. Her interest in painting began in her early childhood. Before graduating from the Central Academy of Arts in Beijing in 1950, she studied with Mr. Chen Shao Mei, an accomplished artist. She then worked as a graphic designer, but her reputation as an artist spread quickly and in 1959 was elected a member of China Research Institute of Painting (China). The paintings in this book are the most recent testimony of its excellence in traditional painting style Gongbi school. They are the culmination of a distinguished career, during which her paintings were praised by renowned Chinese artist Xu Bei Hong and exhibited widely by the Chinese government, both inside and outside China. When she left China to go to Hong Kong in 1979, she was unable to bring any of his paintings, because they were considered at that time, part of the treasure of Chinese art. Since then, the public of Hong Kong has enjoyed exhibitions of her paintings in the Shatin City Hall and in the Star House in Tsim Sha Tsui. Her work has also been the subject of articles in many newspapers and magazines.

Gongbi style is very complex in its exquisitely detailed descriptions of the figures and the Chinese scenario, as can be deduced from the meticulous care and labor in the work of Madame Li. Only after a lifetime of practice and experience, she has acquired such skill. Now she spends most of the time to teach students who are interested in learning and preserving this fine artistic tradition, of which she is one of the few teachers who remain.
