kṣīṇa-rikthaś cyutaḥ sthānāt
kṣipto baddhaś ca śatrubhiḥ
jñātibhiś ca parityakto
yātanām anuyāpitaḥ
guruṇā bhartsitaḥ śapto
jahau satyaṁ na suvrataḥ
chalair ukto mayā dharmo
nāyaṁ tyajati satya-vāk

 | Although bereft of his riches, fallen from his original position, defeated and arrested by his enemies, rebuked and deserted by his relatives and friends, although suffering the pain of being bound and although rebuked and cursed by his spiritual master, Bali Mahārāja, being fixed in his vow, did not give up his truthfulness. It was certainly with pretension that I spoke about religious principles, but he did not give up religious principles, for he is true to his word. | | | Aunque se ha visto privado de sus riquezas, degradado de su posición original, derrotado y apresado por sus enemigos, abandonado y censurado por sus familiares y amigos, aunque ha sufrido el dolor de verse atado, aunque fue reprendido y maldecido por su propio maestro espiritual, Bali Mahārāja, firme en su voto, nunca dejó de ser fiel a la verdad. PURPORT — SIGNIFICADO
| | Bali Mahārāja passed the severe test put before him by the Supreme Personality of Godhead. This is further proof of the Lord’s mercy toward His devotee. The Supreme Personality of Godhead sometimes puts a devotee to severe tests that are almost unbearable. One could hardly even live under the conditions forced upon Bali Mahārāja. That Bali Mahārāja endured all these severe tests and austerities is the mercy of the Supreme Lord. The Lord certainly appreciates the devotee’s forbearance, and it is recorded for the future glorification of the devotee. This was not an ordinary test. As described in this verse, hardly anyone could survive such a test, but for the future glorification of Bali Mahārāja, one of the mahājanas, the Supreme Personality of Godhead not only tested him but also gave him the strength to tolerate such adversity. The Lord is so kind to His devotee that when severely testing him the Lord gives him the necessary strength to be tolerant and continue to remain a glorious devotee. | | | Mahārāja Bali superó la difícil prueba a que fue sometido por la Suprema Personalidad de Dios, lo cual nos confirma nuevamente que el Señor es misericordioso con Su devoto. La Suprema Personalidad de Dios a veces somete a un devoto a pruebas muy difíciles, prácticamente insoportables. Pocos hubieran podido sobrevivir en unas circunstancias como las que le fueron impuestas a Mahārāja Bali. De hecho, si pudo soportar aquellas rigurosas pruebas y austeridades, fue por misericordia del Señor Supremo. En verdad, el Señor sabe apreciar la tolerancia del devoto, que será recordada y glorificada por la posteridad. No era una prueba cualquiera. Como se explica en este verso, casi nadie podría sobrevivir a una prueba como aquella. Sin embargo, para que Mahārāja Bali, uno de los mahājanas, fuese glorificado por ello en el futuro, la Suprema Personalidad de Dios no solo le probó, sino que también le dio la fuerza necesaria para tolerar unas circunstancias tan adversas. El Señor es tan bondadoso con Su devoto que, cuando le somete a las pruebas más difíciles, también le da la fuerza necesaria para ser tolerante y permanecer en su gloriosa posición de devoto. | | |
