8.11.1	Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: Thereafter, by the supreme grace of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Śrī Hari, all the demigods, headed by Indra and Vāyu, were brought back to life. Being enlivened, the demigods began severely beating the very same demons who had defeated them before.	Śukadeva Gosvāmī dijo: A continuación, por la gracia suprema de la Suprema Personalidad de Dios, Śrī Hari, todos los semidioses, capitaneados por Indra y Vāyu, fueron devueltos a la vida y con nuevos bríos, comenzaron a atacar violentamente a los mismos demonios que antes les habían derrotado.

8.11.2	When the most powerful Indra became angry and took his thunderbolt in hand to kill Mahārāja Bali, the demons began lamenting, “Alas, alas!”	Cuando el poderoso Indra se enojó y tomó su rayo en la mano para matar a Mahārāja Bali, los demonios comenzaron a lamentarse: «¡Ay!, ¡ay!»

8.11.3	Sober and tolerant and well equipped with paraphernalia for fighting, Bali Mahārāja moved before Indra on the great battlefield. King Indra, who always carries the thunderbolt in his hand, rebuked Bali Mahārāja as follows.	Sobrio, tolerante y bien pertrechado para la contienda, Bali Mahārāja avanzó hacia Indra en el gran campo de batalla. El rey Indra, que siempre lleva el rayo en la mano, increpó a Bali Mahārāja con las siguientes palabras.

8.11.4	Indra said: O rascal, as a cheater sometimes binds the eyes of a child and takes away his possessions, you are trying to defeat us by displaying some mystic power, although you know that we are the masters of all such mystic powers.	Indra dijo: ¡Ah, sinvergüenza!, como el bribón que venda los ojos de un niño para robarle sus propiedades, tú estás tratando de vencernos con manifestaciones de poder místico, aunque sabes que nosotros somos los amos de esos poderes.

8.11.5	Those fools and rascals who want to ascend to the upper planetary system by mystic power or mechanical means, or who endeavor to cross even the upper planets and achieve the spiritual world or liberation, I cause to be sent to the lowest region of the universe.	A esos necios y sinvergüenzas que pretenden ascender al sistema planetario superior por medio del poder místico o con medios mecánicos, o que se esfuerzan por ir incluso más allá de los planetas superiores para alcanzar el mundo espiritual o la liberación, yo hago que les envíen a la región más baja del universo.

8.11.6	Today, with my thunderbolt, which has hundreds of sharp edges, I, the same powerful person, shall sever your head from your body. Although you can produce so much jugglery through illusion, you are endowed with a poor fund of knowledge. Now, try to exist on this battlefield with your relatives and friends.	Yo, esa misma persona poderosa, es quien te va a cortar hoy mismo la cabeza con su afilado rayo de cientos de dientes. Aunque puedes producir mucha magia con tus trucos, tu conocimiento es muy escaso. A ver cómo sobrevives en este campo de batalla, con todos tus amigos y familiares.

8.11.7	Bali Mahārāja replied: All those present on this battlefield are certainly under the influence of eternal time, and according to their prescribed activities, they are destined to receive fame, victory, defeat and death, one after another.	Bali Mahārāja contestó: Todos los que estamos en este campo de batalla nos hallamos, ciertamente, bajo la influencia del tiempo eterno, y, conforme a nuestras actividades prescritas, estamos destinados a recibir, una tras otra, la fama, la victoria, la derrota y la muerte.

8.11.8	Seeing the movements of time, those who are cognizant of the real truth neither rejoice nor lament for different circumstances. Therefore, because you are jubilant due to your victory, you should be considered not very learned.	Al ver los movimientos del tiempo, los que son conscientes de la verdadera realidad ni se regocijan ni se lamentan ante el devenir de las circunstancias. Puesto que tu victoria te llena de júbilo, no se te puede considerar muy sabio.

8.11.9	You demigods think that your own selves are the cause of your attaining fame and victory. Because of your ignorance, saintly persons feel sorry for you. Therefore, although your words afflict the heart, we do not accept them.	Vosotros, los semidioses, os creéis la causa de vuestra fama y de vuestra victoria. Debido a vuestra ignorancia, las personas santas sienten pena de vosotros. Por eso, aunque vuestras palabras hacen daño en el corazón, nosotros no las aceptamos.

8.11.10	Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: After thus rebuking Indra, King of heaven, with sharp words, Bali Mahārāja, who could subdue any other hero, drew back to his ear the arrows known as nārācas and attacked Indra with these arrows. Then he again chastised Indra with strong words.	Śukadeva Gosvāmī dijo: Después de reprender a Indra, rey del cielo, con estas hirientes palabras, Bali Mahārāja, que podía someter a cualquier héroe, armó su arco con las flechas nārācas y, llevándose la cuerda hasta la oreja para tensarlo, disparó contra Indra. Entonces volvió a reñirle con palabras fuertes.

8.11.11	Since Mahārāja Bali’s rebukes were truthful, King Indra did not at all become sorry, just as an elephant beaten by its driver’s rod does not become agitated.	Como las acusaciones de Mahārāja Bali eran ciertas, el rey Indra no se dolió en lo más mínimo, del mismo modo que un elefante no se agita cuando su jinete lo golpea con su vara.

8.11.12	When Indra, the defeater of enemies, released his infallible thunderbolt scepter at Bali Mahārāja with a desire to kill him, Bali Mahārāja indeed fell to the ground with his airplane, like a mountain with its wings cut off. 8.11.13	When the demon Jambhāsura saw that his friend Bali had fallen, he appeared before Indra, the enemy, just to serve Bali Mahārāja with friendly behavior.	Al ver que su amigo Bali había caído, el demonio Jambhāsura plantó cara a Indra, el enemigo, para servir a Bali Mahārāja conforme a la amistad que les unía.

8.11.14	The greatly powerful Jambhāsura, carried by a lion, approached Indra and forcefully struck him on the shoulder with his club. He also struck Indra’s elephant.	Montado en un león, el muy poderoso Jambhāsura fue hacia Indra y le golpeó violentamente en el hombro con su maza. También golpeó al elefante de Indra.

8.11.15	Being beaten by Jambhāsura’s club, Indra’s elephant was confused and aggrieved. Thus it touched its knees to the ground and fell unconscious. 8.11.16	Thereafter, Mātali, Indra’s chariot driver, brought Indra’s chariot, which was drawn by one thousand horses. Indra then left his elephant and got onto the chariot.	Inmediatamente, el auriga de Indra, Mātali, llevó la cuadriga, tirada por mil caballos, hasta Indra, quien, desmontando del elefante, se subió en ella.

8.11.17	Appreciating Mātali’s service, Jambhāsura, the best of the demons, smiled. Nonetheless, he struck Mātali in the battle with a trident of blazing fire.	Apreciando el servicio de Mātali, Jambhāsura, el mejor de los demonios, sonrió. No obstante, en el curso de la batalla le golpeó con su abrasador tridente de fuego.

8.11.18	Although the pain was extremely severe, Mātali tolerated it with great patience. Indra, however, became extremely angry at Jambhāsura. He struck Jambhāsura with his thunderbolt and thus severed his head from his body.	Con mucha paciencia, Mātali toleró aquel insoportable dolor. Indra, sin embargo, montó en cólera contra Jambhāsura y, golpeándole con el rayo, le cortó la cabeza.

8.11.19	When Nārada Ṛṣi informed Jambhāsura’s friends and relatives that Jambhāsura had been killed, the three demons named Namuci, Bala and Pāka arrived on the battlefield in great haste.	Cuando Nārada Ṛṣi informó a los amigos y familiares de Jambhāsura de que éste había sido matado, los tres demonios llamados Namuci, Bala y Pāka irrumpieron apresuradamente en el campo de batalla.

8.11.20	Rebuking Indra with harsh, cruel words that were piercing to the heart, these demons showered him with arrows, just as torrents of rain wash a great mountain.	Con insultos crueles y ásperas palabras que herían el corazón, esos demonios lanzaron contra Indra infinidad de flechas, que caían como torrentes de lluvia sobre una gran montaña.

8.11.21	Quickly handling the situation on the battlefield, the demon Bala put all of Indra’s one thousand horses into tribulation by simultaneously piercing them all with an equal number of arrows.	Rápidamente, el demonio Bala, haciéndose dueño de la situación en el campo de batalla, puso en graves dificultades a los mil caballos de Indra, a los que hirió simultáneamente con igual número de flechas.

8.11.22	Pāka, another demon, attacked both the chariot, with all its paraphernalia, and the chariot driver, Mātali, by fitting two hundred arrows to his bow and releasing them all simultaneously. This was indeed a wonderful act on the battlefield.	Pāka, otro demonio, atacó directamente la cuadriga, con todo su equipamiento, y al auriga, Mātali. Para ello, armó su arco con doscientas flechas y las disparó de una sola vez. En el campo de batalla, ese acto fue verdaderamente maravilloso.

8.11.23	Then Namuci, another demon, attacked Indra and injured him with fifteen very powerful golden-feathered arrows, which roared like a cloud full of water.	El tercer demonio, Namuci, atacó a Indra y le hirió con quince flechas de pluma dorada; eran unas flechas muy poderosas, que rugieron como una nube llena de agua.

8.11.24	Other demons covered Indra, along with his chariot and chariot driver, with incessant showers of arrows, just as clouds cover the sun in the rainy season.	Como el Sol es cubierto por las nubes en la estación lluviosa, Indra, con su cuadriga y su auriga, quedó cubierto por una incesante lluvia de flechas que otros demonios le disparaban.

8.11.25	The demigods, being severely oppressed by their enemies and being unable to see Indra on the battlefield, were very anxious. Having no captain or leader, they began lamenting like traders in a wrecked vessel in the midst of the ocean.	Los semidioses, agobiados por la presión de los demonios, y sin poder ver a Indra, su capitán, estaban muy angustiados. Al verse sin líder, comenzaron a lamentarse, como mercaderes en una nave que está a punto de zozobrar en medio del océano.

8.11.26	Thereafter, Indra released himself from the cage of the network of arrows. Appearing with his chariot, flag, horses and chariot driver and thus pleasing the sky, the earth and all directions, he shone effulgently like the sun at the end of night. Indra was bright and beautiful in the vision of everyone.	Entonces, Indra se liberó de la jaula de flechas que le envolvía. Cuando apareció con su cuadriga, su bandera, sus caballos y su auriga, el cielo, la Tierra y todas las direcciones se sintieron complacidos; su refulgencia era como la del Sol que brilla al final de la noche. Indra resplandecía, hermoso ante los ojos de todos.

8.11.27	When Indra, who is known as Vajra-dhara, the carrier of the thunderbolt, saw his own soldiers so oppressed by the enemies on the battlefield, he became very angry. Thus he took up his thunderbolt to kill the enemies.	Cuando Indra, que recibe el nombre de Vajra-dhara, el portador del rayo, vio a sus propios soldados, agobiados por el empuje enemigo en el campo de batalla, se puso muy furioso, y, empuñando el rayo, se dispuso a matar a los enemigos.

8.11.28	O King Parīkṣit, King Indra used his thunderbolt to cut off the heads of both Bala and Pāka in the presence of all their relatives and followers. In this way he created a very fearful atmosphere on the battlefield.	¡Oh, rey Parīkṣit!, con su rayo, el rey Indra cortó las cabezas de Bala y de Pāka en presencia de todos sus familiares y seguidores. De ese modo creó una atmósfera de terror en el campo de batalla.

8.11.29	O King, when Namuci, another demon, saw the killing of both Bala and Pāka, he was full of grief and lamentation. Thus he angrily made a great attempt to kill Indra.	¡Oh, rey!, al ver morir a Bala y a Pāka, el tercer demonio, Namuci, se llenó de dolor y lamentación. Entonces, iracundo, trató con todas sus fuerzas de matar a Indra.

8.11.30	Being angry and roaring like a lion, the demon Namuci took up a steel spear, which was bound with bells and decorated with ornaments of gold. He loudly cried, “Now you are killed!” Thus coming before Indra to kill him, Namuci released his weapon.	Enfadado y rugiendo como un león, el demonio Namuci tomó una lanza de acero, que tenía atados cascabeles y estaba decorada con adornos de oro. Gritó en voz alta: «¡Estás muerto!» Así, al presentarse ante Indra para matarlo, Namuci arrojó su arma.

8.11.31	O King, when Indra, King of heaven, saw this very powerful spear falling toward the ground like a blazing meteor, he immediately cut it to pieces with his arrows. Then, being very angry, he struck Namuci’s shoulder with his thunderbolt to cut off Namuci’s head.	¡Oh, rey!, al ver aquella poderosa lanza que descendía como un meteoro incandescente, Indra, el rey del cielo, la cortó en pedazos con sus flechas. Entonces, muy irritado, lanzó su rayo hacia el cuello de Namuci para cortarle la cabeza.

8.11.32	Although King Indra hurled his thunderbolt at Namuci with great force, it could not even pierce his skin. It is very wonderful that the famed thunderbolt that had pierced the body of Vṛtrāsura could not even slightly injure the skin of Namuci’s neck.	Aunque Indra lo había arrojado con muchísima fuerza, el rayo ni siquiera arañó la piel de Namuci. Es muy asombroso que el célebre rayo que había atravesado el cuerpo de Vṛtrāsura no lograse hacer la más leve herida en la piel del cuello de Namuci.

8.11.33	When Indra saw the thunderbolt return from the enemy, he was very much afraid. He began to wonder whether this had happened because of some miraculous superior power.	Indra, al ver que el rayo regresaba sin herir al enemigo, sintió mucho miedo. Se preguntaba si esto se debía a algún milagroso poder superior.

8.11.34	Indra thought: Formerly, when many mountains flying in the sky with wings would fall to the ground and kill people, I cut their wings with this same thunderbolt.	Indra pensó: En el pasado, cuando el cielo se llenó de montañas aladas que caían a tierra y mataban a la gente, yo les corté las alas con este mismo rayo.

8.11.35	Vṛtrāsura was the essence of the austerities undergone by Tvaṣṭā, yet the thunderbolt killed him. Indeed, not only he but also many other stalwart heroes, whose very skin could not be injured even by all kinds of weapons, were killed by the same thunderbolt.	Vṛtrāsura era la esencia de las austeridades de Tvaṣṭa, pero, aun así, el rayo le mató. En verdad, no fue el único; muchos otros héroes y campeones, cuya piel no podía ser herida por ningún tipo de arma, fueron matados por este mismo rayo.

8.11.36	But now, although the same thunderbolt has been released against a less important demon, it has been ineffectual. Therefore, although it was as good as a brahmāstra, it has now become useless like an ordinary rod. I shall therefore hold it no longer.	Pero ahora, arrojado contra un demonio de poca monta, ese mismo rayo no ha funcionado. Es decir, aunque antes era tan poderoso como un brahmāstra, ahora es tan inútil como un palo cualquiera. Por lo tanto, ya no lo llevaré más.

8.11.37	Śukadeva Gosvāmī continued: While the morose Indra was lamenting in this way, an ominous, unembodied voice said from the sky, “This demon Namuci is not to be annihilated by anything dry or moist.”	Śukadeva Gosvāmī continuó: Mientras Indra, desanimado, se lamentaba de esta manera, una tétrica voz incorpórea dijo desde el cielo: «Este demonio, Namuci, no puede ser matado con nada que esté seco o húmedo».

8.11.38	The voice also said, “O Indra, because I have given this demon the benediction that he will never be killed by any weapon that is dry or moist, you have to think of another way to kill him.”	La voz dijo además: «¡Oh, Indra!, puesto que yo he dado a este demonio la bendición de que no será matado por ninguna arma que esté seca o húmeda, tienes que pensar en otra forma de matarle».

8.11.39	After hearing the ominous voice, Indra, with great attention, began to meditate on how to kill the demon. He then saw that foam would be the means, for it is neither moist nor dry.	Tras escuchar aquella tétrica voz, Indra concentró su atención, meditando en la forma de matar al demonio. Entonces se dio cuenta de que el medio adecuado sería la espuma, que no es ni húmeda ni seca.

8.11.40	Thus Indra, King of heaven, severed Namuci’s head with a weapon of foam, which was neither dry nor moist. Then all the sages satisfied Indra, the exalted personality, by showering flowers and garlands upon him, almost covering him.	Así, Indra, el rey del cielo, cortó la cabeza a Namuci con un arma de espuma, que no era ni seca ni húmeda. Entonces, todos los sabios satisficieron a Indra, la excelsa personalidad, derramando sobre él una lluvia de flores y guirnaldas que casi le cubrió por completo.

8.11.41	Viśvāvasu and Parāvasu, the two chiefs of the Gandharvas, sang in great happiness. The kettledrums of the demigods sounded, and the Apsarās danced in jubilation.	Viśvāvasu y Parāvasu, los dos caudillos de los gandharvas, cantaron con gran felicidad. Los semidioses hicieron sonar sus timbales, y las apsarās danzaron llenas de júbilo.

8.11.42	Vāyu, Agni, Varuṇa and other demigods began killing the demons who opposed them, just as lions kill deer in a forest.	Como leones que cazan ciervos en el bosque, Vāyu, Agni, Varuṇa y los demás semidioses comenzaron a matar a los demonios que aún resistían.

8.11.43	O King, when Lord Brahmā saw the imminent total annihilation of the demons, he sent a message with Nārada, who went before the demigods to make them stop fighting.	¡Oh, rey!, al ver que los demonios estaban a punto de ser completamente exterminados, el Señor Brahmā envió un mensaje por intermedio de Nārada, quien se presentó ante los semidioses para hacer que dejasen de luchar.

8.11.44	The great sage Nārada said: All of you demigods are protected by the arms of Nārāyaṇa, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and by His grace you have gotten the nectar. By the grace of the goddess of fortune, you are glorious in every way. Therefore, please stop this fighting.	El gran sabio Nārada dijo: Todos vosotros, los semidioses, estáis protegidos por los brazos de Nārāyaṇa, la Suprema Personalidad de Dios, y, por Su gracia, habéis obtenido el néctar. Por la gracia de la diosa de la fortuna, sois gloriosos en todo aspecto. Así pues, dejad de luchar, por favor.

8.11.45	Śrī Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: Accepting the words of Nārada, the demigods gave up their anger and stopped fighting. Being praised by their followers, they returned to their heavenly planets.	Śrī Śukadeva Gosvāmī dijo: En respuesta a las palabras de Nārada, los semidioses olvidaron su ira y dejaron de luchar. Entre las alabanzas de sus seguidores, regresaron a sus planetas celestiales.

8.11.46	Following the order of Nārada Muni, whatever demons remained on the battlefield took Bali Mahārāja, who was in a precarious condition, to the hill known as Astagiri.	Siguiendo la orden de Nārada Muni, los demonios que quedaban vivos en el campo de batalla llevaron a Bali Mahārāja, que se encontraba muy maltrecho, a la montaña de Astagiri.

8.11.47	There, on that hill, Śukrācārya brought to life all the dead demoniac soldiers who had not lost their heads, trunks and limbs. He achieved this by his own mantra, known as Saṁjīvanī.	Allí, sobre aquella montaña, Śukrācārya devolvió la vida a todos los soldados demoníacos que aún conservaban la cabeza, el tronco y las extremidades. Esto lo logró con su propio mantra, que recibe el nombre de sañjīvanī.

8.11.48	Bali Mahārāja was very experienced in universal affairs. When he regained his senses and memory by the grace of Śukrācārya, he could understand everything that had happened. Therefore, although he had been defeated, he did not lament.	Bali Mahārāja tenía mucha experiencia en los asuntos del universo. Cuando, por la gracia de Śukrācārya, volvió en sí y recobró la memoria, pudo entender todo lo que había ocurrido. Por eso, aunque había sido vencido, no se lamentó.
