upyamānaṁ muhuḥ kṣetraṁ
svayaṁ nirvīryatām iyāt
na kalpate punaḥ sūtyai
uptaṁ bījaṁ ca naśyati
evaṁ kāmāśayaṁ cittaṁ
kāmānām atisevayā
virajyeta yathā rājann
agnivat kāma-bindubhiḥ

 | My dear King, if an agricultural field is cultivated again and again, the power of its production decreases, and whatever seeds are sown there are lost. Just as drops of ghee on a fire never extinguish the fire but a flood of ghee will, similarly, overindulgence in lusty desires mitigates such desires entirely. | | | Mi querido rey, cuando un campo de cultivo se siembra año tras año, su fertilidad disminuye, y las semillas sembradas en él se pierden. Unas gotas de ghī nunca apagarán un fuego, pero un gran chorro de ghī si lo hará; del mismo modo, el exceso de complacencia de los deseos de disfrute apaga esos deseos por entero. | |
PURPORT — SIGNIFICADO
| | If one continuously sprinkles drops of ghī on a fire, the fire will not be extinguished, but if one suddenly puts a lump of ghī on a fire, the fire may possibly be extinguished entirely. Similarly, those who are too sinful and have thus been born in the lower classes are allowed to enjoy sinful activities fully, for thus there is a chance that these activities will become detestful to them, and they will get the opportunity to be purified. | | | Si salpicamos gotas de ghī constantemente sobre un fuego, el fuego no se apagará, pero si de golpe le vertemos encima una buena cantidad de ghī, es muy probable que se apague completamente. De manera similar, a los que son demasiado pecaminosos y han tenido que nacer en clases inferiores, se les permite disfrutar de esas actividades pecaminosas sin restricción, ya que, de ese modo, es probable que acaben hartándose de esas actividades y reciban una oportunidad de purificarse. | | |
