nāyam arhati vaikuṇṭha-
pāda-mūlopasarpaṇam
sambhāvita-matiḥ stabdhaḥ
sādhubhiḥ paryupāsitam

 | This person is puffed up because of his achievements, thinking, “I am the best.” He does not deserve to approach the shelter of Lord Viṣṇu’s lotus feet, which are worshiped by all saintly persons, for he is impudent, thinking himself greatly important. | | | Esta persona se ha envanecido de sus logros, y piensa que es el mejor. No merece el refugio de los pies de loto del Señor Viṣṇu, que son adorados por todas las personas santas, pues tiene tan poco pudor que se considera muy importante. | |
PURPORT — SIGNIFICADO
| | If a devotee thinks that he is very much advanced in devotional service, he is considered puffed up and unfit to sit beneath the shelter of the Lord’s lotus feet. Again, this instruction by Lord Caitanya is applicable: | | | Cuando un devoto se considera muy avanzado en el servicio devocional, se le considera orgulloso e indigno de un lugar bajo el refugio de los pies de loto del Señor. Una vez más, puede aplicarse esta instrucción del Señor Caitanya: | | | | | tṛṇād api sunīcena
taror api sahiṣṇunā
amāninā mānadena
kīrtanīyaḥ sadā hariḥ | | | tṛṇād api sunīcena
taror api sahiṣṇunā
amāninā mānadena
kīrtanīyaḥ sadā hariḥ | | | | | “One should chant the holy name of the Lord in a humble state of mind, thinking oneself lower than the straw in the street; one should be more tolerant than a tree, devoid of all sense of false prestige and ready to offer all respect to others. In such a state of mind one can chant the holy name of the Lord constantly.” | | | «Para cantar el santo nombre del Señor, se debe tener una mentalidad humilde y considerarse más bajo que una brizna de hierba de la calle. Se debe ser más tolerante que un árbol, sin el menor asomo de prestigio falso, y estar dispuesto a ofrecer pleno respeto a los demás. Con esa mentalidad, se puede cantar constantemente el santo nombre del Señor». | | | | | Unless one is humble and meek, one cannot qualify to sit at the lotus feet of the Lord. | | | Si no somos mansos y humildes, no merecemos un lugar a los pies de loto del Señor. | | |
