 | Human life is not meant to be wasted, like that of the animals, in sense gratificatory activities. Animals always engage in sense gratification — eating, sleeping, fearing and mating — but that is not the engagement of the human being, although, because of the material body, there is need of sense gratification according to a regulative principle. So in effect Devahūti said to her husband, “So far we have these daughters, and we have enjoyed material life in the aerial mansion, traveling all over the universe. These boons have come by your grace, but they have all been for sense gratification. Now there must be something for my spiritual advancement.” | | | La vida humana no es para malgastarla en actividades de complacencia de los sentidos como hacen los animales. Los animales están siempre ocupados en la complacencia de los sentidos - comer, dormir, temer y aparearse - , pero ésa no es la ocupación del ser humano, aunque, debido al cuerpo material, hay necesidad de complacencia de los sentidos conforme a un principio regulador. Así pues, en efecto, Devahūti dijo a su esposo: «Hasta ahora tenemos estas hijas, y hemos disfrutado de la vida material en un palacio aéreo, viajando por todo el universo. Esos bienes han venido por tu gracia, pero todos han sido para la complacencia de los sentidos. Ahora debe haber algo para mi avance espiritual». | |
