सत्त्वं रजस्तम इति निर्गुणस्य गुणास्त्रयः
स्थितिसर्गनिरोधेषु गृहीता मायया विभोः
sattvaṁ rajas tama iti
nirguṇasya guṇās trayaḥ
sthiti-sarga-nirodheṣu
gṛhītā māyayā vibhoḥ

 | The Supreme Lord is pure, spiritual form, transcendental to all material qualities, yet for the sake of the creation of the material world and its maintenance and annihilation, He accepts through His external energy the material modes of nature called goodness, passion and ignorance. | | | El Señor Supremo es una forma pura y espiritual, trascendental a todas las cualidades materiales; sin embargo, con objeto de crear el mundo material, y para su manutención y aniquilación, Él adopta a través de Su energía externa las modalidades materiales de la naturaleza, denominadas bondad, pasión e ignorancia. | |
PURPORT — SIGNIFICADO
| | The Supreme Lord is the master of the external energy manifested by the three material modes, namely goodness, passion and ignorance, and as master of this energy He is ever unaffected by the influence of such bewildering energy. The living entities, the jīvas, however, are affected by or susceptible to being influenced by such modes of material nature — that is the difference between the Lord and the living entities. The living entities are subjected by those qualities, although originally the living entities are qualitatively one with the Lord. In other words, the material modes of nature, being products of the energy of the Lord, are certainly connected with the Lord, but the connection is just like that between the master and the servants. The Supreme Lord is the controller of the material energy, whereas the living entities, who are entangled in the material world, are neither masters nor controllers. Rather, they become subordinate to or controlled by such energy. Factually the Lord is eternally manifested by His internal potency or spiritual energy just like the sun and its rays in the clear sky, but at times He creates the material energy, as the sun creates a cloud in the clear sky. As the sun is ever increasingly unaffected by a spot of cloud, so also the unlimited Lord is unaffected by the spot of material energy manifested at times in the unlimited span of the Lord’s rays of brahmajyoti. | | | El Señor Supremo es el amo de la energía externa manifestada por las tres modalidades materiales, a saber, bondad, pasión e ignorancia; y como amo de esa energía, Él nunca es afectado por la influencia de esa energía que confunde. Las entidades vivientes, los jīvas, sin embargo, son afectadas por dichas modalidades de la naturaleza material, o son susceptibles de ser influenciadas por ellas - esa es la diferencia entre el Señor y las entidades vivientes - . Las entidades vivientes están sujetas por esas cualidades, si bien original y cualitativamente son uno con el Señor. En otras palabras, las modalidades materiales de la naturaleza, siendo producto de la energía del Señor, están indudablemente conectadas con el Señor, pero la conexión es tal como la que hay entre el amo y el sirviente. El Señor Supremo es el controlador de la energía material, mientras que las entidades vivientes, que están enredadas en el mundo material, no son ni amos ni controladores de esa energía. Por el contrario, ellas se vuelven subordinadas a esa energía, es decir, quedan controladas por ellas. De hecho, el Señor se encuentra eternamente manifestado por Su potencia interna o energía espiritual, tal como ocurre con el Sol y sus rayos en el claro cielo, pero en ocasiones Él crea la energía material, tal como el Sol crea una nube en el cielo claro. Así como el Sol nunca es afectado en absoluto por una insignificante nube, así mismo el ilimitado Señor no es afectado por la insignificante energía material que en ocasiones se manifiesta en la ilimitada extensión de los rayos de Su brahmajyoti. | | |
