10.72.1-2	Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: One day, as King Yudhiṣṭhira sat in the royal assembly surrounded by eminent sages, brāhmaṇas, kṣatriyas and vaiśyas, and also by his brothers, spiritual masters, family elders, blood relations, in-laws and friends, he addressed Lord Kṛṣṇa as everyone listened.	Śukadeva Gosvāmī dijo: Un día, mientras el rey Yudhiṣṭhira estaba sentado en la asamblea real, rodeado de eminentes sabios, brāhmaṇas, kṣatriyas, vaiśyas; también de sus hermanos, maestros espirituales, ancianos de la familia, parientes consanguíneos, suegros y amigos, se dirigió al Señor. Kṛṣṇa mientras todos escuchaban.

10.72.3	Śrī Yudhiṣṭhira said: O Govinda, I desire to worship Your auspicious, opulent expansions by the Rājasūya sacrifice, the king of Vedic ceremonies. Please make our endeavor a success, my Lord.	Śrī Yudhiṣṭhira dijo: ¡Oh, Govinda! deseo adorar Tus auspiciosas y opulentas expansiones mediante el sacrificio Rājasūya, el rey de las ceremonias védicas. Por favor, haz que nuestro esfuerzo sea un éxito, mi Señor.

10.72.4	Purified persons who constantly serve, meditate upon and glorify Your shoes, which destroy everything inauspicious, are sure to obtain freedom from material existence, O lotus-naveled one. Even if they desire something in this world, they obtain it, whereas others — those who do not take shelter of You — are never satisfied, O Lord.	Las personas purificadas que constantemente sirven, meditan y glorifican Tus zapatos, que destruyen todo lo desfavorable, seguramente obtendrán la libertad de la existencia material, ¡oh, el del ombligo de loto! Incluso si desean algo en este mundo, lo obtienen, mientras que otros, aquellos que no se refugian en Ti, nunca están satisfechos, ¡oh Señor!

10.72.5	Therefore, O Lord of lords, let the people of this world see the power of devotional service rendered to Your lotus feet. Please show them, O almighty one, the position of those Kurus and Sṛñjayas who worship You, and the position of those who do not.	Por lo tanto, ¡oh Señor de señores! deja que la gente de este mundo vea el poder del servicio devocional rendido a Tus pies de loto. Por favor, muéstrales, ¡oh todopoderoso! la posición de aquellos Kurus y Sṛñjayas que Te adoran y la posición de aquellos que no te adoran.

10.72.6	Within Your mind there can be no such differentiation as “This one is mine, and that is another’s,” because You are the Supreme Absolute Truth, the Soul of all beings, always equipoised and enjoying transcendental happiness within Yourself. Just like the heavenly desire tree, You bless all who properly worship You, granting their desired fruits in proportion to the service they render You. There is nothing wrong in this.	Dentro de Tu mente no puede haber una diferenciación como «Esto es mío y aquello es de otro», porque Tú eres la Verdad Absoluta Suprema, el Alma de todos los seres, siempre equilibrada y disfrutando de felicidad trascendental dentro de Ti. Al igual que el árbol de los deseos celestial, bendices a todos los que te adoran adecuadamente, concediéndoles los frutos deseados en proporción al servicio que te prestan. No hay nada de malo en esto.

10.72.7	The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: Your decision is perfect, O King, and thus your noble fame will spread to all the worlds, O tormentor of your enemies.	La Suprema Personalidad de Dios dijo: Tu decisión es perfecta, ¡oh Rey! así tu noble fama se extenderá a todos los mundos, ¡oh, atormentador de tus enemigos!

10.72.8	Indeed, My lord, for the great sages, the forefathers and the demigods, for Our well-wishing friends and, indeed, for all living beings, the performance of this king of Vedic sacrifices is desirable.	De hecho, Mi señor, para los grandes sabios, los antepasados, los semidioses y para Nuestros amigos bien deseosos; de hecho, para todos los seres vivientes, la realización de este rey de los sacrificios védicos es deseable.

10.72.9	First conquer all kings, bring the earth under your control and collect all the required paraphernalia; then execute this great sacrifice.	Primero conquista a todos los reyes, pon la Tierra bajo tu control y reúne toda la parafernalia necesaria; después ejecuta este gran sacrificio.

10.72.10	These brothers of yours, O King, have taken birth as partial expansions of the demigods ruling various planets. And you are so self-controlled that you have conquered even Me, who am unconquerable for those who cannot control their senses.	Estos hermanos tuyos, ¡oh Rey! nacieron como expansiones parciales de los semidioses que gobiernan varios planetas. Son tan autocontrolados que hasta a Mí me han conquistado, que soy invencible para aquellos que no pueden controlar sus sentidos.

10.72.11	No one in this world, even a demigod — what to speak of an earthly king — can defeat My devotee with his strength, beauty, fame or riches.	Nadie en este mundo, ni siquiera un semidiós – y mucho menos un rey terrenal – puede derrotar a Mi devoto con su fuerza, belleza, fama o riquezas.

10.72.12	Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: Upon hearing these words sung by the Supreme Lord, King Yudhiṣṭhira became joyful, and his face blossomed like a lotus. Thus he sent forth his brothers, who were empowered with Lord Viṣṇu’s potency, to conquer all directions.	Śukadeva Gosvāmī dijo: Al oír estas palabras cantadas por el Señor Supremo, el rey Yudhiṣṭhira se alegró y su rostro floreció como una flor de loto. Así, envió a sus hermanos, que estaban dotados de la potencia del Señor Viṣṇu, para conquistar todas las direcciones.

10.72.13	He sent Sahadeva to the south with the Sṛñjayas, Nakula to the west with the Matsyas, Arjuna to the north with the Kekayas, and Bhīma to the east with the Madrakas.	Envió a Sahadeva al sur con los Sṛñjayas, a Nakula al oeste con los Matsyas, a Arjuna al norte con los Kekayas y a Bhīma al este con los Madrakas.

10.72.14	After defeating many kings with their prowess, these heroic brothers brought back abundant wealth for Yudhiṣṭhira Mahārāja, who was intent on performing the sacrifice, O King.	Después de derrotar a muchos reyes con sus proezas, estos heroicos hermanos trajeron abundantes riquezas para Yudhiṣṭhira Mahārāja, quien estaba decidido a realizar el sacrificio, ¡oh, rey!

10.72.15	When King Yudhiṣṭhira heard that Jarāsandha remained undefeated, he set to pondering, and then the primeval Lord, Hari, told him the means Uddhava had described for defeating Jarāsandha.	Cuando el rey Yudhiṣṭhira escuchó que Jarāsandha seguía invicto, se puso a reflexionar, entonces el Señor primigéneo, Hari, le explicó los medios que Uddhava describió para derrotar a Jarāsandha.

10.72.16	Thus Bhīmasena, Arjuna and Kṛṣṇa disguised themselves as brāhmaṇas and went to Girivraja, my dear King, where the son of Bṛhadratha was to be found.	Mi querido rey, así, Bhīmasena, Arjuna y Kṛṣṇa se disfrazaron de brāhmaṇas y fueron a Girivraja, donde se encontraba el hijo de Bṛhadratha.

10.72.17	Disguised as brāhmaṇas, the royal warriors approached Jarāsandha at home during the appointed hour for receiving guests. They submitted their entreaty to that dutiful householder, who was especially respectful to the brahminical class.	Disfrazados de brāhmaṇas, los guerreros reales se acercaron a la casa de Jarāsandha durante la hora señalada para recibir a los invitados. Presentaron su súplica a ese obediente cabeza de familia, que era especialmente respetuoso con la clase brahmínica.

10.72.18	[Kṛṣṇa, Arjuna and Bhīma said:] O King, know us to be needy guests who have come to you from afar. We wish all good unto you. Please grant us whatever we desire.	[Kṛṣṇa, Arjuna y Bhīma dijeron:] Oh rey, sabe que somos huéspedes necesitados que hemos venido a ti desde lejos. Te deseamos todo lo mejor. Por favor concédenos todo lo que deseamos.

10.72.19	What can the tolerant not bear? What will the wicked not do? What will the generous not give in charity? And who will those of equal vision see as an outsider?	¿Qué no puede soportar el tolerante? ¿Qué no harán los malvados? ¿Qué no darán los generosos en caridad? ¿A quién verán los de igual visión que la de un extraño?

10.72.20	He indeed is to be censured and pitied who, though able to do so, fails to achieve with his temporary body the lasting fame glorified by great saints.	En verdad, debe ser censurado y compadecido quien, aunque capaz de hacerlo, no logra alcanzar con su cuerpo temporal la fama duradera glorificada por los grandes santos.

10.72.21	Hariścandra, Rantideva, Uñchavṛtti Mudgala, Śibi, Bali, the legendary hunter and pigeon, and many others have attained the permanent by means of the impermanent.	Hariścandra, Rantideva, Uñchavṛtti Mudgala, Śibi, Bali, el legendario cazador y la paloma, así como muchos otros han alcanzado lo permanente por medio de lo impermanente.

10.72.22	Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: From the sound of their voices, their physical stature and the marks of bowstrings on their forearms, Jarāsandha could tell that his guests were of the royal order. He began to think he had seen them somewhere before.	Śukadeva Gosvāmī dijo: Por el sonido de sus voces, su estatura física y las marcas de las cuerdas de los arcos en sus antebrazos, Jarāsandha supo que sus invitados pertenecían a la orden real. Empezó a pensar que ya los había visto antes en alguna parte.

10.72.23	[Jarāsandha thought:] These are surely members of the royal order dressed as brāhmaṇas, but still I must grant their request for charity, even if they beg me for my own body.	[Jarāsandha pensó:] Seguramente estos son miembros de la orden real vestidos como brāhmaṇas, pero aun así debo concederles su petición de caridad, incluso si me ruegan por mi propio cuerpo.

10.72.24-25	Indeed, the spotless glories of Bali Mahārāja are heard throughout the world. Lord Viṣṇu, wishing to recover Indra’s opulence from Bali, appeared before him in the guise of a brāhmaṇa and made him fall from his powerful position. Though aware of the ruse and forbidden by his guru, Bali, king of the demons, still gave Viṣṇu the whole earth in charity.	De hecho, las glorias inmaculadas de Bali Mahārāja se escuchan en todo el mundo. El Señor Viṣṇu, deseando recuperar la opulencia de Indra en Bali, apareció ante él en forma de brāhmaṇa y lo hizo caer de su poderosa posición. Aunque consciente de la artimaña y prohibiéndoselo su guru, Bali, rey de los demonios, aun así le dio a Viṣṇu toda la Tierra en caridad.

10.72.26	What is the use of an unqualified kṣatriya who goes on living but fails to gain everlasting glory by working with his perishable body for the benefit of brāhmaṇas?	¿De qué sirve un kṣatriya no calificado que sigue viviendo pero no logra obtener la gloria eterna trabajando con su cuerpo perecedero en beneficio de los brāhmaṇas?

10.72.27	[Śukadeva Gosvāmī continued:] Thus making up his mind, the generous Jarāsandha addressed Kṛṣṇa, Arjuna and Bhīma: “O learned brāhmaṇas, choose whatever you wish. I will give it to you, even if it is my own head.”	[Śukadeva Gosvāmī continuó:] Decidiéndose así, el generoso Jarāsandha se dirigió a Kṛṣṇa, Arjuna y Bhīma: «¡Oh, brāhmaṇas eruditos!, elijan lo que deseen. Se los daré, aunque sea mi propia cabeza».

10.72.28	The Supreme Lord said: O exalted King, give us battle in the form of a duel, if you think it fitting. We are princes and have come to beg a fight. We have no other request to make of you.	El Señor Supremo dijo: Oh exaltado rey, danos batalla en forma de duelo, si lo crees apropiado. Somos príncipes y hemos venido a pedir pelea. No tenemos ninguna otra petición que hacerte.

10.72.29	Over there is Bhīma, son of Pṛthā, and this is his brother Arjuna. Know Me to be their maternal cousin, Kṛṣṇa, your enemy.	Allí está Bhīma, hijo de Pṛthā y éste es su hermano Arjuna. Debes saber que soy su primo materno, Kṛṣṇa, tu enemigo.

10.72.30	[Śukadeva Gosvāmī continued:] Thus challenged, Magadharāja laughed out loud and contemptuously said, “All right, you fools, I’ll give you a fight!”	[Śukadeva Gosvāmī continuó:] Ante este desafío, Magadharāja se rió a carcajadas y dijo con desprecio: «¡Muy bien, tontos, les concederé la pelea!»

10.72.31	“But I will not fight with You, Kṛṣṇa, for You are a coward. Your strength abandoned You in the midst of battle, and You fled Your own capital of Mathurā to take shelter in the sea.”	«Pero no pelearé contigo, Kṛṣṇa, porque eres un cobarde. Tus fuerzas Te abandonaron en medio de la batalla y huiste de Tu propia capital, Mathurā, para refugiarte en el mar».

10.72.32	“As for this one, Arjuna, he is not as old as I, nor is he very strong. Since he is no match for me, he should not be the contender. Bhīma, however, is as strong as I am.”	«En cuanto a éste, Arjuna, no es tan viejo como yo ni muy fuerte. Como él no es rival para mí, no debería ser el contendiente. Sin embargo, Bhīma si es tan fuerte como yo».

10.72.33	Having said this, Jarāsandha offered Bhīmasena a huge club, took up another himself and went outside the city.	Dicho esto, Jarāsandha le ofreció a Bhīmasena un enorme garrote, tomó otro y salió de la ciudad.

10.72.34	The two heroes thus began battling each other on the level fighting grounds outside the city. Maddened with the fury of combat, they struck each other with their lightning-bolt-like clubs.	Los dos héroes comenzaron así a luchar entre sí en los campos de batalla llanos fuera de la ciudad. Enloquecidos por la furia del combate, se golpeaban el uno al otro con sus garrotes que parecían rayos.

10.72.35	As they skillfully circled left and right, like actors dancing on a stage, the fight presented a magnificent spectacle.	Mientras giraban hábilmente en círculos de izquierda a derecha, como actores bailando en un escenario, la pelea presentó un espectáculo magnífico.

10.72.36	When Jarāsandha’s and Bhīmasena’s clubs loudly collided, O King, the sound was like the impact of the big tusks of two fighting elephants, or the crash of a thunderbolt in a flashing electrical storm.	¡Oh rey! cuando las mazas de Jarāsandha y Bhīmasena chocaron ruidosamente, el sonido fue como el impacto de los grandes colmillos de dos elefantes peleando o el estallido de un rayo en una centelleante tormenta eléctrica.

10.72.37	They swung their clubs at each other with such speed and force that as the clubs struck their shoulders, hips, feet, hands, thighs and collarbones, the weapons were crushed and broken like branches of arka trees with which two enraged elephants furiously attack each other.	Se atacaron con sus garrotes con tal velocidad y fuerza que cuando los garrotes golpearon sus hombros, caderas, pies, manos, muslos y clavículas, las armas fueron aplastadas y rotas como ramas de árboles arka con las que dos irritados elefantes se atacan furiosamente.

10.72.38	Their clubs thus ruined, those great heroes among men angrily pummeled each other with their iron-hard fists. As they slapped each other, the sound resembled the crash of elephants colliding or harsh thunderclaps.	Con sus garrotes arruinados, estos grandes héroes entre los hombres se golpearon furiosamente el uno al otro con sus puños duros como el hierro. Mientras se abofeteaban, el sonido se parecía al choque de elefantes chocando o a fuertes truenos.

10.72.39	As they thus fought, this contest between opponents of equal training, strength and stamina reached no conclusion. And so they kept on fighting, O King, without any letup.	Mientras luchaban así, esta contienda entre oponentes de igual entrenamiento, fuerza y resistencia no llegó a ninguna conclusión. ¡Oh rey! así siguieron luchando sin tregua.

10.72.40	Lord Kṛṣṇa knew the secret of His enemy Jarāsandha’s birth and death, and also how he had been given life by the demoness Jarā. Considering all this, Lord Kṛṣṇa imparted His special power to Bhīma.	El Señor Kṛṣṇa conocía el secreto del nacimiento y la muerte de Su enemigo Jarāsandha, también sabía cómo la diablesa Jarā le dio la vida. Considerando todo esto, el Señor Kṛṣṇa le otorgó Su poder especial a Bhīma.

10.72.41	Having determined how to kill the enemy, that Lord of infallible vision made a sign to Bhīma by tearing in half a small branch of a tree.	Habiendo determinado cómo matar al enemigo, este Señor de visión infalible le hizo una señal a Bhīma cortando por la mitad una pequeña rama de un árbol.

10.72.42	Understanding this sign, mighty Bhīma, the best of fighters, seized his opponent by the feet and threw him to the ground.	Al comprender esta señal, el poderoso Bhīma, el mejor de los luchadores, agarró a su oponente por los pies y lo arrojó al suelo.

10.72.43	Bhīma pressed down on one leg with his foot while grabbing Jarāsandha’s other leg in his hands, and just as a great elephant might break the branch of a tree, Bhīma tore Jarāsandha apart from the anus upward.	Bhīma presionó una pierna con el pie mientras agarraba la otra pierna de Jarāsandha con sus manos, así como un gran elefante podría romper la rama de un árbol, Bhīma desgarró a Jarāsandha desde el ano hacia arriba.

10.72.44	The King’s subjects then saw him lying in two separate pieces, each with a single leg, thigh, testicle, hip, shoulder, arm, eye, eyebrow and ear, and with half a back and chest.	Entonces los súbditos del rey lo vieron tendido en dos pedazos separados, cada uno con una sola pierna, muslo, testículo, cadera, hombro, brazo, ojo, ceja, oreja, con media espalda y medio pecho.

10.72.45	With the death of the lord of Magadha, a great cry of lamentation arose, while Arjuna and Kṛṣṇa congratulated Bhīma by embracing him.	Con la muerte del señor de Magadha surgió un gran grito de lamentación, mientras Arjuna y Kṛṣṇa felicitaban a Bhīma abrazándolo.

10.72.46	The immeasurable Supreme Personality of Godhead, the sustainer and benefactor of all living beings, coronated Jarāsandha’s son, Sahadeva, as the new ruler of the Magadhas. The Lord then freed all the kings Jarāsandha had imprisoned.	La inconmensurable Suprema Personalidad de Dios, el sustentador y benefactor de todos los seres vivientes, coronó al hijo de Jarāsandha, Sahadeva, como nuevo gobernante de los Magadhas. Después, el Señor liberó a todos los reyes que Jarāsandha había encarcelado.
