10.43.1	Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: O chastiser of enemies, Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma, having executed all necessary purification, then heard the kettledrums resounding at the wrestling arena, and They went there to see what was happening.	Śukadeva Gosvāmī dijo: ¡Oh Kṛṣṇa y Balarāma, castigadores de los enemigos! habiendo ejecutado toda la purificación necesaria, oyeron resonar los timbales en el campo de lucha y fueron allí para ver qué estaba sucediendo.

10.43.2	When Lord Kṛṣṇa reached the entrance to the arena, He saw the elephant Kuvalayāpīḍa blocking His way at the urging of his keeper.	Cuando el Señor Kṛṣṇa llegó a la entrada de la arena, vio al elefante Kuvalayāpīḍa bloqueándole el paso por instrucciones de su cuidador.

10.43.3	Securely binding up His clothes and tying back His curly locks, Lord Kṛṣṇa addressed the elephant-keeper with words as grave as the rumbling of a cloud.	Atando bien Su ropa y recogiendo Sus rizos, el Señor Kṛṣṇa se dirigió al cuidador de elefantes con palabras tan graves como el estruendo de una nube.

10.43.4	[Lord Kṛṣṇa said:] O driver, driver, move aside at once and let Us pass! If you don’t, this very day I will send both you and your elephant to the abode of Yamarāja!	[El Señor Kṛṣṇa dijo:] ¡Oh conductor, oh conductor, hazte a un lado de inmediato y déjanos pasar! ¡Si no lo haces, hoy mismo te enviaré a ti y a tu elefante a la morada de Yamarāja!

10.43.5	Thus threatened, the elephant-keeper became angry. He goaded his furious elephant, who appeared equal to time, death and Yamarāja, into attacking Lord Kṛṣṇa.	Ante esta amenaza, el cuidador del elefante se enojó. Incitó a su furioso elefante, que se se veía igual al tiempo, a la muerte y a Yamarāja, a atacar al Señor Kṛṣṇa.

10.43.6	The lord of the elephants charged Kṛṣṇa and violently seized Him with his trunk. But Kṛṣṇa slipped away, struck him a blow and disappeared from his view among his legs.	El señor de los elefantes cargó contra Kṛṣṇa y Lo agarró violentamente con su trompa. Pero Kṛṣṇa se escabulló, le asestó un golpe y desapareció de su vista entre sus piernas.

10.43.7	Infuriated at being unable to see Lord Keśava, the elephant sought Him out with his sense of smell. Once again Kuvalayāpīḍa seized the Lord with the end of his trunk, only to have the Lord forcefully free Himself.	Enfurecido por no poder ver al Señor Keśava, el elefante Lo buscó con su sentido del olfato. 10.43.8	Lord Kṛṣṇa then grabbed the powerful Kuvalayāpīḍa by the tail and playfully dragged him twenty-five bow-lengths as easily as Garuḍa might drag a snake.	Entonces el Señor Kṛṣṇa agarró al poderoso Kuvalayāpīḍa por la cola y juguetonamente, lo arrastró veinticinco longitudes de arco con tanta facilidad así como Garuḍa arrastraría a una serpiente.

10.43.9	As Lord Acyuta held on to the elephant’s tail, the animal tried to twist away to the left and to the right, making the Lord swerve in the opposite direction, as a young boy would swerve when pulling a calf by the tail.	Mientras el Señor Acyuta sostenía la cola del elefante, el animal trató de girar hacia la izquierda y hacia la derecha, haciendo que el Señor se desviara en la dirección opuesta, así como lo haría un niño al tirar de un ternero por la cola.

10.43.10	Kṛṣṇa then came face to face with the elephant and slapped him and ran away. Kuvalayāpīḍa pursued the Lord, managing to touch Him again and again with each step, but Kṛṣṇa outmaneuvered the elephant and made him trip and fall.	Entonces Kṛṣṇa se encontró cara a cara con el elefante, lo abofeteó y se escapó. 10.43.11	As Kṛṣṇa dodged about, He playfully fell on the ground and quickly got up again. The raging elephant, thinking Kṛṣṇa was down, tried to gore Him with his tusks but struck the earth instead.	Mientras Kṛṣṇa esquivaba, cayó al suelo juguetonamente y rápidamente se levantó de nuevo. 10.43.12	His prowess foiled, the lordly elephant Kuvalayāpīḍa went into a frenzied rage out of frustration. But the elephant-keepers goaded him on, and he furiously charged Kṛṣṇa once again. 10.43.13	The Supreme Lord, killer of the demon Madhu, confronted the elephant as he attacked. Seizing his trunk with one hand, Kṛṣṇa threw him to the ground.	El Señor Supremo, asesino del demonio Madhu, se enfrentó al elefante mientras este atacaba. Tomando su trompa con una mano, Kṛṣṇa lo arrojó al suelo.

10.43.14	Lord Hari then climbed onto the elephant with the ease of a mighty lion, pulled out a tusk, and with it killed the beast and his keepers.	Entonces, el Señor Hari se subió al elefante con la facilidad de un poderoso león, le sacó un colmillo y con él mató a la bestia y a sus cuidadores.

10.43.15	Leaving the dead elephant aside, Lord Kṛṣṇa held on to the tusk and entered the wrestling arena. With the tusk resting on His shoulder, drops of the elephant’s blood and sweat sprinkled all over Him, and His lotus face covered with fine drops of His own perspiration, the Lord shone with great beauty.	Dejando a un lado al elefante muerto, el Señor Kṛṣṇa agarró el colmillo y entró en la arena de lucha libre. Con el colmillo apoyado en Su hombro, gotas de sangre y sudor del elefante salpicándole por todas partes y Su rostro de loto cubierto de finas gotas de Su propia transpiración, el Señor resplandecía con gran belleza.

10.43.16	My dear King, Lord Baladeva and Lord Janārdana, each carrying one of the elephant’s tusks as His chosen weapon, entered the arena with several cowherd boys.	Mi querido rey, el Señor Baladeva y el Señor Janārdana, llevando cada quien uno de los colmillos del elefante como Su arma elegida, entraron a la arena con varios vaqueritos.

10.43.17	The various groups of people in the arena regarded Kṛṣṇa in different ways when He entered it with His elder brother. The wrestlers saw Kṛṣṇa as a lightning bolt, the men of Mathurā as the best of males, the women as Cupid in person, the cowherd men as their relative, the impious rulers as a chastiser, His parents as their child, the King of the Bhojas as death, the unintelligent as the Supreme Lord’s universal form, the yogīs as the Absolute Truth and the Vṛṣṇis as their supreme worshipable Deity.	Los diferentes grupos de personas en la arena veían a Kṛṣṇa de diferentes maneras cuando Él entró con Su hermano mayor. 10.43.18	When Kaṁsa saw that Kuvalayāpīḍa was dead and the two brothers were invincible, he was overwhelmed with anxiety, O King.	Cuando Kaṁsa vio que Kuvalayāpīḍa estaba muerto y que los dos hermanos eran invencibles, se sintió abrumado por la ansiedad, ¡oh, rey!

10.43.19	Arrayed with variegated ornaments, garlands and garments, just like a pair of excellently costumed actors, the two mighty-armed Lords shone splendidly in the arena. Indeed, They overpowered the minds of all onlookers with Their effulgences.	Ataviados con variados adornos, guirnaldas y vestimentas, como un par de actores excelentemente disfrazados, los dos Señores de poderosos brazos brillaron espléndidamente en la arena. De hecho, con Su refulgencia Ellos dominaron la mente de todos los espectadores.

10.43.20	O King, as the citizens of the city and the people from outlying districts gazed upon those two Supreme Personalities from their seats in the galleries, the force of the people’s happiness caused their eyes to open wide and their faces to blossom. They drank in the vision of the Lords’ faces without becoming satiated.	¡Oh Rey! mientras los ciudadanos de la ciudad y la gente de los distritos periféricos contemplaban a estas dos Personalidades Supremas desde sus asientos en las galerías, la fuerza de la felicidad de la gente hizo que sus ojos se abrieran de par en par y sus rostros florecieran. Bebieron sin saciedad de la visión de los rostros de los Señores.

10.43.21-22	The people seemed to be drinking Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma with their eyes, licking Them with their tongues, smelling Them with their nostrils and embracing Them with their arms. Reminded of the Lords’ beauty, character, charm and bravery, the members of the audience began describing these features to one another according to what they had seen and heard.	Parecía que la gente bebía a Kṛṣṇa y a Balarāma con los ojos, lamiéndolos con la lengua, oliéndolos con la nariz y abrazándolos con los brazos. Al recordar la belleza, el carácter, el encanto y la valentía de los Señores, los miembros de la audiencia comenzaron a describir estos rasgos los unos a los otros de acuerdo con lo que vieron y escucharon.

10.43.23	[The people said:] These two boys are certainly expansions of the Supreme Lord Nārāyaṇa who have descended to this world in the home of Vasudeva.	[La gente dijo:] Estos dos muchachos son ciertamente expansiones del Señor Supremo Nārāyaṇa que han descendido a este mundo en el hogar de Vasudeva.

10.43.24	This one [Kṛṣṇa] took birth from mother Devakī and was brought to Gokula, where He has remained concealed all this time, growing up in the house of King Nanda.	Éste [Kṛṣṇa] nació de madre Devakī y fue llevado a Gokula, donde permaneció oculto todo este tiempo, creciendo en la casa del rey Nanda.

10.43.25	He made Pūtanā and the whirlwind demon meet with death, pulled down the twin Arjuna trees, and killed Śaṅkhacūḍa, Keśī, Dhenuka and similar demons.	Hizo que Pūtanā y el demonio torbellino se encontraran con la muerte, derribó a los árboles gemelos Arjuna y mató a Śaṅkhacūḍa, Keśī, Dhenuka y a otros demonios similares.

10.43.26-27	He saved the cows and the cowherds from a forest fire and subdued the serpent Kāliya. He removed Lord Indra’s false pride by holding up the best of mountains with one hand for an entire week, thus protecting the inhabitants of Gokula from rain, wind and hail.	Salvó a las vacas y a los vaqueros de un incendio forestal y sometió a la serpiente Kāliya. Eliminó el falso orgullo del Señor Indra sosteniendo a la mejor de las montañas con una mano durante toda una semana, protegiendo así a los habitantes de Gokula de la lluvia, el viento y el granizo.

10.43.28	The gopīs overcame all kinds of distress and experienced great happiness by seeing His face, which is always cheerful with smiling glances and ever free of fatigue.	Las gopīs superaron todo tipo de angustia y experimentaron una gran felicidad al ver Su rostro, que siempre está alegre, con miradas sonrientes y siempre libre de fatiga.

10.43.29	It is said that under His full protection the Yadu dynasty will become extremely famous and attain wealth, glory and power.	Se dice que bajo Su total protección la dinastía Yadu se volverá extremadamente famosa y alcanzará riqueza, gloria y poder.

10.43.30	This lotus-eyed elder brother of His, Lord Balarāma, is the proprietor of all transcendental opulences. He has killed Pralamba, Vatsaka, Baka and other demons.	Este hermano mayor Suyo de ojos de loto, el Señor Balarāma, es el propietario de todas las opulencias trascendentales. Ha matado a Pralamba, Vatsaka, Baka y a otros demonios.

10.43.31	While the people talked in this way and the musical instruments resounded, the wrestler Cāṇūra addressed Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma with the following words.	Mientras la gente hablaba de esa manera y los instrumentos musicales resonaban, el luchador Cāṇūra se dirigió a Kṛṣṇa y a Balarāma con las siguientes palabras.

10.43.32	[Cāṇūra said:] O son of Nanda, O Rāma, You two are well respected by courageous men and are both skillful at wrestling. Having heard of Your prowess, the King has called You here, wanting to see for himself.	[Cāṇūra dijo:] ¡Oh, hijo de Nanda, oh Rāma! Ustedes dos son muy respetados por los hombres valientes y ambos son hábiles en la lucha libre. Habiendo oído hablar de Tus proezas, el Rey te ha llamado aquí, deseando verlo por sí mismo.

10.43.33	Subjects of the King who try to please him with their thoughts, acts and words are sure to achieve good fortune, but those who fail to do so will suffer the opposite fate.	Los súbditos del Rey que intentan complacerlo con sus pensamientos, actos y palabras seguramente alcanzarán buena fortuna, pero aquellos que no lo hagan sufrirán el destino opuesto.

10.43.34	It is well known that cowherd boys are always joyful as they tend their calves, and that the boys playfully wrestle with each other while grazing their animals in the various forests.	Es bien sabido que los vaqueritos siempre están alegres mientras cuidan a sus terneros y que estos niños juegan a las luchas entre sí mientras sus animales pastan en los diferentes bosques.

10.43.35	Therefore let’s do what the King wants. Everyone will be pleased with us, for the king embodies all living beings.	Por lo tanto, hagamos lo que el Rey quiere. Todos estarán contentos con nosotros, porque el rey encarna a todos los seres vivientes.

10.43.36	Hearing this, Lord Kṛṣṇa, who liked to wrestle and welcomed the challenge, replied with words appropriate to the time and place.	Al escuchar esto, el Señor Kṛṣṇa, a quien le gustaba luchar, acogió con agrado el desafío y respondió con palabras apropiadas al momento y al lugar.

10.43.37	[Lord Kṛṣṇa said:] Although forest-dwellers, We are also subjects of the Bhoja king. We must gratify his desires, for such behavior will confer upon Us the greatest benefit.	[El Señor Kṛṣṇa dijo:] Aunque habitamos en los bosques, también somos súbditos del rey Bhoja. Debemos satisfacer sus deseos, porque tal comportamiento Nos conferirá el mayor beneficio.

10.43.38	We are just young boys and should play with those of equal strength. The wrestling match must go on properly so that irreligion does not taint the respectable members of the audience.	Sólo somos niños pequeños, deberíamos competir con aquellos de igual fuerza. El combate de lucha debe desarrollarse apropiadamente para que la irreligión no manche a los miembros respetables de la audiencia.

10.43.39	Cāṇūra said: You aren’t really a child or even a young man, and neither is Balarāma, the strongest of the strong. After all, You playfully killed an elephant who had the strength of a thousand other elephants.	Cāṇūra dijo: En realidad no eres un niño, ni siquiera un joven, tampoco lo es Balarāma, el más fuerte de los fuertes. Después de todo, jugando mataste a un elefante que tenía la fuerza de otros mil elefantes.

10.43.40	Therefore You two should fight powerful wrestlers. There’s certainly nothing unfair about that. You, O descendant of Vṛṣṇi, can show Your prowess against me, and Balarāma can fight with Muṣṭika.	Por lo tanto, ustedes dos deberían luchar contra luchadores poderosos.
