शनैः शनैर उपरमेद बुद्ध्या धृतिगृहीतया
आत्मसंस्थं मनः कृत्वा न किं चिद अपि चिन्तयेत

TRANSLATION — TRADUCCION

Gradually, step by step, one should become situated in trance by means of intelligence sustained by full conviction, and thus the mind should be fixed on the Self alone and should think of nothing else.
Gradualmente, paso a paso, uno debe situarse en trance por medio de la inteligencia y con total convicción, de este modo la mente debe fijarse solamente en el Yo y no deberá pensar en nada más.

PURPORT — SIGNIFICADO

By proper conviction and intelligence one should gradually cease sense activities. This is called pratyāhāra. The mind, being controlled by conviction, meditation and cessation from the senses, should be situated in trance, or samādhi. At that time there is no longer any danger of becoming engaged in the material conception of life. In other words, although one is involved with matter as long as the material body exists, one should not think about sense gratification. One should think of no pleasure aside from the pleasure of the Supreme Self. This state is easily attained by directly practicing Kṛṣṇa consciousness.

Mediante la convicción e inteligencia apropiadas uno debe cesar gradual­mente las actividades de los sentidos. Esto se denomina pratyāhāra. La mente, -siendo controlada por la convicción, la meditación y la cesación de los sentidos, debe situarse en trance o samādhi. En ese momento ya no hay ningún peligro de enredarse en el concepto material de la vida. En otras palabras, aunque uno está involucrado en la materia mientras exista el cuerpo material, no debe pensar en la gratificación de los sentidos. No se debe pensar en ningún placer aparte del placer del Yo Supremo. Este estado se obtiene fácilmente mediante la práctica directa de la Conciencia de Kṛṣṇa.
