परकृतेर गुणसंमूढाः सज्जन्ते गुणकर्मसु
तान अकृत्स्नविदॊ मन्दान कृत्स्नविन न विचालयेत

TRANSLATION — TRADUCCION
 | Bewildered by the modes of material nature, the ignorant fully engage themselves in material activities and become attached. But the wise should not unsettle them, although these duties are inferior due to the performers’ lack of knowledge.
| | Los ignorantes, alucinados por las modalidades de la naturaleza material, se ocupan totalmente en actividades materiales y se apegan. Pero los sabios no deben perturbarlos, aunque esos compromisos sean inferiores debido a la falta de conocimiento de parte de los ejecutores.

PURPORT — SIGNIFICADO
| | Persons who are unknowledgeable falsely identify with gross material consciousness and are full of material designations. This body is a gift of the material nature, and one who is too much attached to the bodily consciousness is called manda, or a lazy person without understanding of spirit soul. Ignorant men think of the body as the self; they accept bodily connections with others as kinsmanship, the land in which the body is obtained is their object of worship, and they consider the formalities of religious rituals to be ends in themselves. Social work, nationalism and altruism are some of the activities for such materially designated persons. Under the spell of such designations, they are always busy in the material field; for them spiritual realization is a myth, and so they are not interested. Those who are enlightened in spiritual life, however, should not try to agitate such materially engrossed persons. Better to prosecute one’s own spiritual activities silently. Such bewildered persons may be engaged in such primary moral principles of life as nonviolence and similar materially benevolent work.
| | Las personas que no tienen conocimiento, se identifican falsamente con la conciencia mate'rial burda y están llenas de designaciones materiales. Este cuerpo es un regalo de la naturaleza material y a uno que está demasiado apegado a la conciencia corporal se le llama manda, o sea, persona perezosa sin comprensión del alma espiritual. Los hombres ignorantes piensan que el cuerpo es el yo, la relación corporal con otros es aceptada como parentesco, la tierra en la que se obtuvo el cuerpo es el objeto de adoración, y las formalidades de los rituales rellgiosos se consideran como fm es en sí mismas. El trabajo social, el nacionalismo y el altruismo son algunas de las actividades de esas personas materialmente designadas. Bajo el hechizo de tales designaciones, ellos siempre están ocupados en el campo material; para ellos, la realización espiritual es un mito y por eso no les interesa. Tales personas alucinadas pueden incluso estar ocupadas en principios morales de la vida tan elementales como la no violencia y otros trabajos de benevolencia material similares.
| | | Men who are ignorant cannot appreciate activities in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, and therefore Lord Kṛṣṇa advises us not to disturb them and simply waste valuable time. But the devotees of the Lord are more kind than the Lord because they understand the purpose of the Lord. Consequently they undertake all kinds of risks, even to the point of approaching ignorant men to try to engage them in the acts of Kṛṣṇa consciousness, which are absolutely necessary for the human being.
| | Sin embaṛgo, aquellos que poseen iluminación espiritual no deben tratar de agitar a esas personas que están absortas en la materia. Es mejor proseguir silenciosamente con las actividades espirituales propias. Los hombres que son ignorantes no pueden apreciar las actividades en la Conciencia de Kṛṣṇa, y por eso, el Señor Kṛṣṇa nos aconseja que no los perturbemos, que no perdamos tiempo valioso. Pero los devotos del Señor son más bondadosos que el Señor, porque ellos comprenden el propósito del Señor. En consecuencia ellos acometen toda clase de riesgos, incluso hasta el punto de acercarse a los hombres ignorantes y tratar de ocuparlos en actividades de la Conciencia de Kṛṣṇa, las cuales son absolutamente necesarias para el ser humano.
